Investigation of Zr and Sr impurity diffusion as well as 50Ti and 130Ba self-diffusion in single crystalline barium titanate, BaTiO3
In this research project cation diffusion processes in single crystalline BaTiO3 are investigated. The work is divided into several parts. On the one hand there is the study of impurity diffusion in particular of Sr2+ and Zr4+ cations. These cations are selected as they exhibit the same charges and similar ionic radii to Ba2+ and Ti4+, respectively. On the other hand the self-diffusion coefficients of the natural isotops 50Ti and 130Ba are determined as a function of the variable temperature T. Analysis is carried out by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, ToF-SIMS. The results of the diffusion experiments will be used to advance the defect chemical models of BaTiO3.
